Kids will explore herbs, infusions, plant science, color, pH, and propagation while making their own herbal sun tea.
Each kit includes the supplies and step-by-step instructions to make an herbal infusion using butterfly pea flower, chamomile, and lemon balm.
Along the way, kids will:
• Meet each herb and learn how to identify it, how it has been used, and some of its interesting history
• Discover what an infusion is and how water pulls color, scent, flavor, and plant compounds from herbs
• Observe, smell, taste, and make predictions about the herbs before and after steeping
• Experiment with the amazing color-changing properties of butterfly pea flower
• Explore acids and pH using lemon and pH strips
• Learn how plants can make new plants through propagation
• Propagate their own lemon balm cutting and track its progress in a propagation journal
• Practice measuring, observing, recording, and other simple kitchen and science skills
The kit also includes two experiment levels so younger and older kids can explore the science at an age-appropriate level.
A hands-on Farm School activity that brings together plants, history, kitchen skills, and science—with something refreshing to drink at the end!
