Want to use your charter funds?
Take a closer look at something we see every day but probably don’t pay much attention to... leaves!
In this Farm School kit, kids will investigate real leaves and discover the amazing network of veins running through them. We’ll learn what those veins actually do, look at different vein patterns and discover how water and nutrients move through a plant.
Then we’ll use what we learned to create a felt leaf garland! Kids will stitch the veins onto several different felt leaves, learning a beginner hand-sewing skill as they go. Once their leaves are finished, they’ll string them together to make a fall garland they can actually hang and enjoy.
Both a plastic needle and a metal sewing needle are included so you can choose what works best for your child. Younger or beginner sewists can use the plastic needle with pre-punched holes, while older or more experienced kids can use the metal needle to stitch directly through the felt.
But the garland is just one part of the kit. We’ll investigate leaves up close, explore how their structures help them do their jobs and use hands-on activities to get kids looking a little differently at the plants growing all around them.
